Shopify's per-sale cost depends on your plan and whether you use Shopify Payments. Using a third-party processor instead adds an extra surcharge on top of that processor's own fee. Enter your numbers to see your real payout.

Shopify's per-sale cost has two layers: your plan's card processing rate, and an extra surcharge if you skip Shopify Payments for a third-party processor like PayPal or Stripe. This calculator covers the per-transaction cost; it doesn't include your monthly subscription ($39/mo Basic, roughly $105/mo Grow, roughly $399/mo Advanced) or app costs.
Using Shopify Payments directly, online rates run 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic, 2.7% + $0.30 on Grow, and 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced. The rate improves with each tier, which is part of why higher-volume stores eventually outgrow Basic even before hitting other plan limits.
If you use PayPal, Stripe, or another processor instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own surcharge on top of whatever that processor already charges: 2.0% on Basic, 1.0% on Grow, 0.5% on Advanced. This compounds with the processor's own fee, not replaces it, so routing payments outside Shopify Payments is almost always more expensive, not less.
